No child's play: Condom ads banned from 6 am to 10 pm in India

NEW DELHI/ AHMEDABAD: The government has prohibited television channels from airing advertisements for condoms any time in the day till 10 pm since some of the commercials were indecent and can impact children evoking strong reactions from companies and advertisers. The information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry in an advisory issued to all television channels on Monday said advertising for condoms will only be allowed between 10 pm and 6 am. Some channels carry ads of condoms repeatedly which are alleged to be indecent specially for children it said. ET has seen a copy of the advisory. Citing the Cable Television Network Rules the ministry said advertisements that endanger the safety of children or create in them any interest in unhealthy practices shall not be carried. The move it said was to avoid exposure of such material to children and to ensure strict adherence to the provisions . Any failure will attract action it said. Case that shook Kerala's conscience: Court to give verdict in Jisha rape and murder

NEW DELHI: The man accused in the Jisha rape and murder case was today found guilty by a sessions court in Kerala s Ernakulam. The case pertains to the brutal rape and murder of Jisha a law student from Perumbavoor on April 28 2016. The chargesheet said that Ameerul killed Jisha when she resisted rape attempt. Islam was the only person accused of murder. He was a native of Assam who had left his home at the age of 10 according to his family. The trial in the case took 85 days. As many as 100 witnesses including 15 migrant labourers were examined by the prosecution which also presented circumstantial evidences before the court against Islam. The prosecution presented as many as 290 documents and 36 material evidences and the defence counsel examined five witnesses. Evidence presented in the court also include results of the forensic and DNA tests conducted on the accused. Manhattan subway explosion 'was attempted terrorist attack', says mayor

A 27-year-old man was in custody on Monday after allegedly detonating a pipe bomb in a New York City subway station during the morning commute. The suspect Akayed Ullah was one of four people injured in the explosion which occurred at about 7.20am in a passageway near 42nd Street and 8th Avenue in midtown Manhattan near Times Square New York City police said. None of the injuries were life-threatening. Daniel Nigro the fire department commissioner said Ullah sustained burns to his hands and torso while the three other people suffered ringing ears and headaches . At a press conference New York police commissioner James O Neill said the suspect had an improvised low-tech explosive device attached to his body with Velcro and zip ties.
